The Head of Program, Languages oversees the operations of the English Preparatory Program, Graduate English Preparatory Program and other language preparation programs and language examinations. The Head of Program, Languages has a key role in realizing the vision of the university’s language programs and works collaboratively with the Director, Teaching and Learning Center on language program delivery in Cambodia, and in the future, regionally. The Head of Program, Languages is a member of the Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) team and the postholder contributes to the TLC strategy with a focus on quality language teaching and learning. Language educator performance, student outcomes and best practice delivery are key accountabilities of this role. The Head of Program, Languages leads on professional development for the language teaching team with an emphasis on positive student feedback and staff satisfaction. The Head of Program, Languages also oversees the development of language program curricula, scheduling, effective resource planning, line management of the languages team and the overall program quality.
- Lead the languages teaching team by promoting a culture of teaching excellence, continuous improvement and innovation.
- Ensure best practice language education through the leadership of curriculum development and review; quality assessment and moderation; designing innovative language programs with a focus on excellence.
- Oversee the implementation of academic policy and associated compliance within scope of the language programs collaboratively with the Director, Teaching and Learning Center and the Director, Quality Assurance.
- Manage, monitor and regularly report on key language program performance metrics, student and language teaching staff surveys, and other performance indicators specified by the Director, Teaching and Learning Center and Deputy Director, Learning and Innovation.
- Facilitate action research and conference contribution as part of the wider language teaching and learning community.
- Facilitate professional learning and plan annual PD events and opportunities for language program teaching staff.
- Create, develop and implement new curricula including standardized assessment aligned with documented course learning outcomes for all language programs.
- Oversee, develop and implement administrative procedures related to all aspects of the language programs, including allocation of teachers to classes, assessment, and quality assurance.
- Contribute to and oversee the development of curricula for new programs, specifically professional English programs and the teaching of languages other than English.
- Lead on standardization activities for the language program team, particularly for placement testing and course assessments.
- Optimize student retention, progression, completion and attendance through implementing effective curriculum development, classroom practices and other program retention strategies.
- Liaise with the Teaching and Learning Center administration and communicate key information in a timely and efficient manner to the language teaching team.
- Work collaboratively with the language teaching team on the development of high quality and professionally presented teaching resources consistent with the course learning outcomes for each program.
- Lead on the implementation of international language examinations such as IELTS and ensure delivery standards are met as defined by agreements with awarding bodies, such as IDP.
- Coordinate and manage program documentation processes required by Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport regulatory requirements and compliance for Quality Assurance, in conjunction with the Director, Teaching and Learning Center and the Director, Quality Assurance.
- Liaise with the Head of Student Affairs to address student challenges within the language programs to optimize the student experience, promote academic support and wellbeing, and ensure a joined-up university journey.
- Contribute to the recruitment, retention and development of high caliber language teaching staff through participation in interviews, provision of staff development, coaching/mentoring, termly lesson observations and feedback, goal setting and performance management.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships, alliances and networks within the wider higher education language teaching community.
- Post-graduate qualification in Language Education / TESOL / Applied Linguistics
- Minimum 5 years’ experience of language program coordination with proven leadership, coaching and mentoring capabilities
- Demonstrated experience leading academic teams, ensuring curriculum innovation, and championing high levels of student engagement
- Demonstrated experience in a management / coordination role in the language education sector
- Familiarity with international English (and other) language examinations such as IELTS
- Extensive English for Academic Purposes and foundation English language teaching experience
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and best practice teaching principles
- Familiarity with a wide range of educational technology for language programs and IT systems
- Excellent communication skills, demonstrated in a variety of relevant educational settings, including cultural sensitivity and a proven ability to operate in a culturally appropriate manner
- Demonstrated experience working on language programs with integrated project-based learning
- Demonstrated ability in the management of language programs to ensure program delivery is highly professional, student centered and commercially viable.
