The Technical Assistant will support JICA Experts with various research activities, including field surveys, data collection, analysis, and coordination. The ideal candidate is a freshly graduated student with excellent English communication skills, eager to learn, and willing to engage with farmers. A strong commitment to accurately documenting meetings and events is essential, as reporting and minute-taking will be a key part of this role.
1. Technical & Research Support:
- Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Surveys: coordinate and conduct monthly LCA surveys with farmers, including:
- Drafting action plans and schedules in collaboration with Japanese researchers and counterparts.
- Gathering stakeholder contact information and scheduling appointments.
- Preparing logistical documents (appointment letters, attendance lists, activity reports, etc.).
- Procuring necessary equipment and materials for the surveys.
- Analyzing survey results and drafting reports.
- Organizing hybrid meetings with researchers to discuss outcomes and next steps.
- Methane Analysis:
- Collect methane samples in the field and assist with gas chromatography analysis for methane measurement.
- Drone & Remote Sensing:
- Operate drones and use remote sensing technologies for field data collection.
- Data Management & Research Support:
- Assist with database management, data analysis, and research paper writing.
- Support the application of new technologies in field surveys and research activities.
- Training & Capacity Building:
- Facilitate training activities related to project components.
- Event Coordination:
- Coordinate schedules with stakeholders for events and activities.
- Provide logistical support for major events such as meetings, workshops, and seminars, including:
- Drafting agendas, objectives, and invitation letters.
- Distributing invitations and following up on attendance.
- Booking conference rooms and coordinating required services (lunch, refreshments, etc.).
- Providing facilitation services, including interpretation and translations.
- Meeting & Event Reporting:
- Attend meetings and record accurate minutes, preparing reports and memos.
- Analyze project-related data and conduct peer reviews.
2. Field and Laboratory Work:
- Conduct field visits to support research activities and ensure coordination with stakeholders.
- Assist with the collection and analysis of research data from field and laboratory activities.
- Ensure proper handling and maintenance of research equipment (drones, chromatography instruments, sensors).
- Provide technical support for project activities, including training and capacity-building.
3. Administrative, Logistic Support, Procurement and Accounting:
- Collaborative Work with Project Officer:
- While the Project Officer handles administrative, logistics, procurement and accounting tasks, you will assist when required, ensuring a balanced team workload.
- Develop administrative skills for future independence, especially as the Project Officer’s contract ends in one year.
- Logistics & Event Support:
- Manage logistics for field trips, including:
- Preparing requests for rental cars/project cars, trip reports, and other necessary documents.
- Coordinating with counterparts and farmers for budget planning and coordination.
- Following up on field trip plans and reports.
- Processing payments for travel allowances.
- Event Documentation & Financial Support:
- Assist in event logistics and financial documentation, including procurement processes.
- Procurement Support:
- Assist with the procurement of office supplies, equipment, and materials as required.
- Support the preparation of procurement-related documents and ensure compliance with JICA regulations.
- Financial Documentation:
- Ensure proper financial documentation and adherence to project financial procedures.
4. Interpretation & Translation:
- Provide interpretation between English and Khmer for meetings and project-related documentation.
- Translate project documents, reports, and administrative materials.
5. Work Planning & Reporting:
- Proactive Planning:
- Plan weekly activities and communicate them at the start of each week.
- Reporting & Independent Task Management:
- Provide structured written reports on tasks and progress, minimizing verbal-only updates.
- Manage tasks independently, with minimal reminders, and follow instructions with attention to detail.
- Seek guidance when necessary but avoid unnecessary delays in task execution.
- Professional Time Management:
- Demonstrate professional time management, ensuring overtime is authorized beforehand.
- Manage workload efficiently, compensating for overtime during peak periods with reduced hours during less busy periods.
- University degree in Agriculture, Engineering, Environmental Science or a related field.
- Native Khmer speaker with excellent written and spoken English. A degree from an English-speaking institution is preferable.
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Minimum of one year of experience in a related field is a plus but not required.
- Willingness to travel and work in rural areas and conduct fieldwork.
- Interest in water management, environmental research, and technology-driven fieldwork.
- Eagerness to learn new skills, including methane analysis and research related technologies.
