The Lower Secondary Math Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging and effective mathematics instruction to students in grades 6-8. This role involves developing a deep understanding of mathematical concepts, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and preparing students for higher-level mathematics. The ideal candidate will be passionate about teaching, committed to student success, and able to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Instructional Delivery:
- Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality mathematics lessons aligned with the school's curriculum international standards.
- Employ a variety of teaching methods, including lectures, discussions, group activities, and hands-on experiments, to cater to diverse learning styles.
- Integrate technology effectively into lessons to enhance learning and engagement.
- Provide clear explanations of complex mathematical concepts and demonstrate their real-world applications.
Curriculum Development & Assessment:
- Develop and adapt lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments (quizzes, tests, projects) that accurately measure student progress and understanding.
- Regularly assess student performance, provide constructive feedback, and maintain accurate records of grades and attendance.
- Analyze assessment data to identify areas for improvement in instruction and student learning.
Classroom Management:
- Establish and maintain a positive, disciplined, and respectful classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Implement effective classroom management strategies to ensure student engagement and minimize disruptions.
- Promote a growth mindset and encourage students to take risks and learn from mistakes.
Student Support & Development:
- Monitor student academic progress and well-being, identifying students who may require additional support or enrichment.
- Provide individualized or small-group support to students struggling with concepts.
- Foster students' critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Encourage student participation in math competitions or clubs.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Collaborate with colleagues, including other math teachers, special education teachers, and counselors, to support student learning and development.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and academic needs.
- Participate in departmental meetings, professional development sessions, and school-wide events.
Professional Growth:
- Stay current with best practices in mathematics education and incorporate new strategies into teaching
- Engage in continuous professional development to enhance teaching skills and knowledge
- Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field.
- Teaching certification/license for secondary education.
- Proven experience teaching mathematics at the lower secondary level (Grades 6-8) is preferred.
- Strong command of lower secondary mathematics curriculum (e.g., algebra, geometry, statistics, number theory).
