The Primary English Supervisor is a dynamic and experienced educational leader responsible for overseeing and enhancing the English language program for students in Grade 1 to Grade 6. This role involves curriculum development, teacher support and professional development, assessment oversight, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, engaging English instruction that meets the diverse needs of our primary students. The successful candidate will be passionate about English language education, possess strong pedagogical knowledge, and demonstrate excellent leadership and communication skills.
Curriculum Leadership & Development:
- Lead the ongoing review, development, and implementation of a comprehensive and engaging Primary English curriculum that aligns with curriculum framework, e.g., Oxford or Cambridge Primary English, IPC, etc.] and the school's educational philosophy.
- Ensure vertical and horizontal alignment of the English curriculum across all primary grades.
- Integrate best practices in English language teaching, including phonics, grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, writing skills, and oral communication.
- Promote the use of a variety of teaching methodologies and resources to cater to different learning styles and abilities.
Teacher Support & Professional Development:
- Provide ongoing instructional coaching, mentoring, and support to Primary English teachers.
- Conduct regular classroom observations to provide constructive feedback and identify areas for growth.
- Plan and deliver targeted professional development workshops and training sessions for English teachers on topics such as new methodologies, curriculum changes, assessment strategies, and classroom management.
- Foster a collaborative and supportive environment among the English teaching team.
- Support new teachers in their assimilation into the school's English department.
Assessment & Evaluation:
- Oversee the development and implementation of effective formative and summative assessment strategies for English language proficiency.
- Analyze assessment data to identify student learning needs and inform instructional planning.
- Ensure consistent and fair grading practices across the primary English department.
- Communicate student progress and achievement to parents and relevant stakeholders.
Resource Management & Innovation:
- Identify, evaluate, and recommend appropriate English language learning resources, including textbooks, digital tools, and supplementary materials.
- Manage the inventory of English learning resources and ensure their effective utilization.
- Stay abreast of current trends and research in English language education and integrate innovative practices into the program.
Communication & Collaboration:
- Collaborate closely with the Head of Primary, other subject supervisors, and school leadership to ensure a cohesive educational experience for students.
- Maintain open and effective communication with parents regarding the English language program and student progress.
- Represent the Primary English department in school-wide meetings and initiatives.
- Bachelor's degree in English, Education, Linguistics, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
- At least 3 years of teaching experience, with a proven track record of success.
- Minimum number of 2 years of experience in a leadership or supervisory role within an educational setting.
- In-depth knowledge of various teaching methodologies (e.g., communicative approach, phonics-based instruction).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Proficiency in using educational technology and digital learning platforms.
