The Resident Naturalist and Botanist works with the resort and foundation teams to showcase the island's natural biodiversity on land and sea. This includes data collection and cataloguing Native fauna and flora on the islands and identifying any endangered or threatened species. As well as taking an active role in the island's sustainability projects to enable accessible communication with all levels of guests worldwide.
The position collaborates closely with the Song Saa Foundation and guest experience teams.
The Resident Naturalist and Botanist requires a dynamic, self-starter, and highly motivated individual who embraces Song Saa’s vision of high-end, responsible travel tourism.
- Interact with resort guests, through the Discovery centre.
- Lead guests on guided tours on Koh Bong; have early morning breakfast with the birds; guide nature hikes across Koh Rong, and lead forest foraging workshops.
- Conduct Research projects, including data collection and analysis on wildlife species and their habitats and trees native to the islands
- Classify and catalogue the trees, medicinal plants and wildlife species, native to Koh Oun and Bong, as well as nearby areas on Koh Rong.
- Establishing a Rainforest nursery site and develop Khmer educational materials to deliver workshops to the local school children and the community, as part of our environmental education alongside the Community and Conservation Officer.
- Degree in Biology, Forestry, Conservation, Environment or other related fields
- At least two years of relevant experience or field-based conservation research experience
- Local knowledge of Cambodian Flora and Fauna found on the southern coast is an advantage
- Studied wildlife biology, including birds, snakes and spiders, native and medicinal plants
- Strong ability to interact effectively with guests
- Experience in working in a culturally diverse working environment.
- Fluency in written and spoken English and Khmer language
- Physically fit and able to trek and hike across islands with guests and also for data collection.
- Open to Cambodian nationals.
